In early 2016, Carrier announced its intention to move 1,400 jobs from Indianapolis to Mexico and savings around $64 million a year in as a result. Donald Trump used the movement of jobs out of the United States as a key platform theme during his Presidential campaign. On December 1, 2016 the announcement was made that President-Elect Trump & Vice-President-Elect Pence struck a deal to keep over 1,000 Carrier jobs and its facility in Indianapolis open.
